Pimpri-Chinchwad is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. As a result of rapid industrialization that began within a decade after Indian independence in 1947, the modern city developed from what were rural suburbs of Pune. The urban core of the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) consists of the twin cities of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad as well as the cantonment areas of Pune, Khadki and Dehu Road. Pimpri-Chinchwad has a population of 1.72 million, according to the 2011 census, residing in an area of 181 km2. There is a vast variety of industrial establishments in Pimpri-Chinchwad and it is well-known for its automotive and manufacturing industry.
There is evidence such as megalithic remains in modern day Bhosari which suggests that the town was inhabited as early as 1100-200 BCE in the early Iron Age. It is also believed to be the capital of legendary King Bhoja. Chinchwad has the shrine of Morya Gosavi, a prominent saint of the Ganapatya denomination of Hinduism that worships Lord Ganesha as the Supreme Being or its metaphysical concept of Brahman. Moraya Gosavi is considered to lived somewhere between the 13th and 17th centuries CE. The city’s size more than doubled in 1997 (from 84.51 sq.km to 170.51 sq.km.) with the addition (in part or in full) of 18 villages located at the periphery of the PCMC as it existed in 1982.
There is really no shortage of things to do in a new city. Pimpri-Chinchwad is no exception.
